Australian Embassy

Inspired by the Australian landscape

The new Australian Embassy building in Washington D.C. brings the Australian continent to the American capital. The building, designed by architect Bates Smart, was inspired by the Australian landscape. The cladding with warm, colored copper panels reflects the characteristic features of the Australian outback, more specifically the Uluru rock, whose changing hues throughout the day have been recreated in the facade design.
